The Venezuelan Andes are the most beautiful mountains in the world
The Venezuelan Andes are part of the Andean mountain range that spans several countries in South America. This mountainous region in Venezuela offers impressive landscapes, with snow-capped peaks, green valleys, rivers, and lakes.
Among the highlights of the Venezuelan Andes are Pico Bolívar, the highest point in Venezuela, and Pico Humboldt, both located in Sierra Nevada National Park. These mountains provide opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, and enjoying nature.
Humboldt Peak is home to the last remnant of the tropical glacier ecosystem in the Cordillera de Mérida. This ecosystem comprises interconnected features such as the remaining ice substrate, proglacial lakes, and the glacier forefield. As the ice substrate diminishes, the risk of losing these connections increases, making the ecosystem critically endangered (Category CR) with a high risk of imminent collapse, according to a recent IUCN Red List of Ecosystems assessment. By the time you’re reading this, the glacier may no longer exist due to climate change.
